With members of the Claremont Stars youth soccer teams in attendance Friday night, the San Bernardino Valley College women's soccer team gave the girls U8 and U9 teams a lesson in perserverance and that a game isn't over until the final whistle.

After falling behind 3-0 - including a disasterous two goals in less than a minute - the Wolverines rallied for three goals in the final 45 minutes to earn a 3-3 draw against Cerritos College inside SBVC Stadium.

Despite being down 3-0, SBVC outshot the Falcons 12-7 in the first half, with goalkeeper Paulina Prescott making five saves to keep the clean sheet. But the Wolverines amped up the pressure in the second 45, firing the ball toward goal 13 times - six on goal.

Melissa Ramirez snapped the shutout in the 67th minute, when she collected a loose ball on the right wing, and fired a low-hard shot that snuck in the far post to make it 3-1. Cerritos nearly answered back after the ensuing kickoff, but SBVC goalkeeper Gabriela Jacome's dive pushed a shot wide for a corner kick that the Wolverines were able to diffused.

The Wolverines pulled within one in the 78th minute, as Darby Shannon converted a penalty after the Falcons were whistled for a handball in their box. Again, Cerritos tried to get the goal back, but Jacome went flying again to push a shot wide, but this time she was able to recover and keep the ball in play.

SBVC continued to pepper the Cerritos goal, finally getting the equalizer two minutes into stoppage time. Gabriela Ramirez collected a pass from Danielle Hernandez, and fired from about 20 yards out, beating Prescott to make the game level.

Jacome ended the game with five saves for the Wolverines, while Prescott made seven for the Falcons. The Falcons also got a team defensive save, and were credited with four blocked shots in the game.

SBVC opens Inland Empire Athletic Conference play Sept. 22 at Mt. San Jacinto, and return home Sept. 29 against Chaffey. That game is scheduled to kickoff at 4 p.m.
