September Athletes of the Month: Men's Cross Country

Samuel Chavarria, Sophomore, San Bernardino Valley College

Chavarria led San Bernardino Valley College to a team victory at the Bakersfield Invitational, capturing the individual title with a time of 21:07 on the rolling four-mile course at the Kern River Soccer Complex. The sophomore from Big Bear High School took the lead from the starting gun and never looked back, earning his second individual victory of the season.

Chavarria opened the year in August with an impressive 30-second victory at the Ventura Invitational and has been the Wolverines' top finisher in all four races this season.

Beyond his success on the course, Chavarria maintains a 3.3 GPA and leads by example, setting the standard for his teammates through his dedication and work ethic.

With the championship season approaching, Chavarria looks to carry his momentum into the IEAC, Southern California and State Championship meets.
