September Athletes of the Month: Women's Cross Country

Savannah Flores, Sophomore, San Bernardino Valley College
Flores opened the season in August with a runner-up finish in Ventura and has continued to turn in strong performances. At the State Preview meet at Woodward Park in Fresno, Flores finished fifth and set an SBVC course record with a time of 18:43.72. She followed that by making school history at the UC Riverside Ag Ops Course, clocking 18:20.7 for the fastest cross country 5K in program history while finishing 16th in a field of 300 runners.
Kaydence Stewart, Freshman, Cerro Coso College
Stewart continued her impressive first season by breaking her own school record at the Bakersfield Invitational. Stewart completed the 5K in 21:39, finishing 19th overall and earning some hardware along the way.
“I’m so proud of Kaydence for really diving into her cross country fitness this year,” said Coach Fahey. “She’s a middle-distance specialist with a 2:25 time in the 800, so stepping up to the 5K is a big challenge. But Kaydence is such a competitor. She’s always ready for a fight.”
